SkipWatching

Privacy policy

Last updated August 2026

SkipWatching is a Chrome extension that turns a YouTube video into a summary in Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, plus the website skipwatching.com where you can buy an unlimited lifetime license. This policy covers both. The short version: we collect as little as possible and never sell anything. Website analytics are enabled; minimal extension usage signals are off by default and are sent only after you opt in from the extension popup.

What the extension does on your device

  • Reads the transcript of the YouTube video you choose to summarize, and builds a prompt from it.
  • Opens Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini and pastes the requested prompt. Your summary lives in your own AI account — not with us.
  • Stores your daily free-summary count locally in your browser (chrome.storage). The count resets on your next local calendar day and is never sent to us.
  • If you activate unlimited access, it also stores your license key and a random device id locally. These leave your device only for license checks (below).

The extension only acts on videos you explicitly click. It does not read your browsing history or watch you across sites. Minimal usage signals are off by default and can be enabled or disabled in the extension popup at any time.

What we receive on our servers

  • When you buy: payment is handled by Stripe. We receive your email address and the amount paid, and we store them with your generated license key. We never see or store your card details — Stripe does.
  • When the extension activates: it sends your license key and the random device id to skipwatching.com to confirm the key is valid and within its device limit. We store that pairing to enforce the limit. No transcript, video, or browsing data is ever sent to us.
  • Minimal extension usage signals: the extension sends a random telemetry token when a summary is launched, together with the selected AI, free or paid plan, remaining free allowance, and whether the launch came from a watch page or thumbnail. It also reports when the daily limit is reached, when an upgrade link is clicked, and whether the prompt template was customized or reset, but never the prompt content. These signals are off by default and are sent only after you opt in from the popup. We never receive the video id, title, URL, transcript, prompt content, summary, license key, device id, or browsing history as usage analytics.
  • Email: we send your receipt and license key to the email address you provided at checkout. Your email is used only for that and for support replies.

Website analytics

We use PostHog and Google Analytics 4 on skipwatching.com to understand page visits, traffic sources, clicks, navigation, and how the website is used. PostHog may also record website sessions so we can find usability problems. All form input values are masked. Session recording is disabled on purchase success and license-installation pages, and license keys and Stripe session ids are removed from captured URLs.

Analytics data is sent to PostHog's EU service and Google Analytics, and may use cookies or browser storage to distinguish visits. We use it only to improve SkipWatching and never for advertising or sale. Aggregate purchase, activation, recovery, and minimal extension events are also sent to PostHog without email, license keys, device ids, or content. We do not send form values, license keys, emails, video content, transcripts, or prompts to Google Analytics.

What we never do

  • No selling or sharing of your data with advertisers.
  • No advertising trackers or ad networks.
  • No collection of the contents of videos, transcripts, or your AI conversations on our servers or in analytics.

Data you can remove

Extension usage signals are off by default. If you opt in, you can turn them off again at any time in the popup. Removing the extension deletes its locally stored daily usage, license, device id, telemetry preference, and random telemetry token. To have your purchase record and associated analytics identity deleted, email us and we’ll remove it.
